Edwards likely to miss semis

West Indies' premium pacer Fidel Edwards is likely to miss the semi-final clash against the Sri Lankans on Friday.

Edwards failed to recover from a back injury, which kept him out of the Super 8 match against England on Monday.

Darren Sammy, who replaced Edwards during the match against England, is likely to play again if Edwards does not recover on time.

The Windies captain Chris Gayle said that Fidel Edwards' absence would be a big blow for the team since he is a proven match-winner.

"He has been good for us throughout the tournament, he's the sort of bowler who can actually win you games and pick up crucial wickets at crucial times. Sometimes he can go for runs, but he's a wicket-taker and can change games. He'd be missed, because he was missed for the last game even though we won," Gayle said.

An optimistic West Indian team spokesman during the team's practice session said "He has not been ruled out of the tournament, he is still with us."

"He won't be bowling today but we remain very optimistic he will be available for tomorrow's match."
