"Technology should improve quality"

ICC Elite Panel umpire Simon Taufel said technology should be used to improve the standard of match officials.
These comments come ahead of the introduction of Umpire Decision Referral System in Test cricket next month.

"For me technology is about balance in the game and making sure we use the best of what is available but also making sure our umpiring skills are at their highest standard so we don't have to always rely on the technology provided," he said.

"We know the players want more correct decisions and we know statistically we get 95 per cent of our decisions right.

But we also know there is room for improvement and we look for how we can get better as umpires," said Taufel in an ICC release.

On his umpiring experience at the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 in Singapore, Taufel said, "I hope that my being in Singapore has helped the Associate and Affiliate, and the regional umpires that there is a way through in the sport to become one of the elite panel umpires and that anything is possible with hard work and determination.
