Mohanlal may bid for IPL team

Kochi: Malayalam actor Mohanlal might soon follow the footsteps Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty by bidding for an Indian Premier League team.

"Yes, it will be through bidding. You will come to know some good or bad news in the coming days," Mohanlal said. There were media reports saying Mohanlal, along with renowned film Director Priyadarshan were trying to have a team in the cash-rich Twenty20 tournament, since the BCCI looking to increase number of IPL teams.

Mohanlal was speaking to reporters at a function here last night after being made 'Goodwill Ambassador of Kerala State Athletics' by the Kerala State Athletics Association (KSAA).

On being made brand ambassador for athletics, Mohanlal said he was happy to be part of the sport in a state which had produced international stars like former sprint queen PT Usha, Shiny Wilson, Beenamol and TC Yohannan.

Mohanlal himself is a former wrestling champion in inter-college level. The actor promised that said he would involve himself in ensuring the progress of athletics in Kerala, despite a busy shooting schedule.

KSAA President Baby Mathew Somatheeram hoped that having Mohanlal as brand ambassador would encourage youngsters to take to the sport.
