Lok Sabha Pats Cricket Team; Praises Dhoni, Sehwag

NEW DELHI - The Lower House of Indian Parliament on Dec 7 congratulated the Indian cricket team for defeating Sri Lanka in a Test series and becoming the number one cricket team in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings.

The performances of captain M S Dhoni and batsman Virender Sehwag were praised by the House.

“It is a matter of immense pride that the Indian cricket team by registering an emphatic victory over the Sri Lankan team in the Mumbai Test Match ... has not only won the ongoing series but also achieved the enviable feat of being the number one cricket team in the ICC Test rankings,” Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said.

She noted that the country had achieved the feat of becoming the number one team for the first time in the history of Indian Test cricket.

This tremendous achievement, which has won the hearts of every Indian, has been made possible by the grit and determination displayed by the team under the able captainship of Dhoni and the splendid performances by Sehwag and others, the Speaker said.

Dhoni has also become the second player in history not to lose a single match in his first 10 Tests, she said.

“I am sure the House would join me in congratulating the Captain and the players of the Indian cricket team on achieving this historic feat and wish them all the best in their future endeavours,” Kumar said amid thumping of desks by members.
