Tanzania: Dar, Arusha for Regional Cricket Tourney

Dar Es Salaam — FOUR regions are set to compete in the Cricket tournament set to start in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

Chairman of the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Zully Rehemtullah named the regions as Arusha, Morogoro, Tanga and Dar es Salaam that will be represented by two teams, which are Academy Boys and Dar es Salaam Combine.

He said the four-day tournament will be staged at the Annadil Burhani and University of Dar es Salaam grounds. "We expect to use this tournament to pick players for the national team at different levels.

We anticipate intriguing event because all competing teams have already stepped up preparations for the championships," he said.

He said upcountry teams are expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam tomorrow ready for the event.

n another development the TCA was still waiting a report from Africa Cricket Association (ACA), regarding the just concluded Africa Under-19 Women tournament that Uganda finished top but was not declared winners, because they allegedly fielded over aged players.

"We are still waiting for the ACA committee to sit and scrutinize the documents submitted to them by the Local Organizing Committee. So far the status will be maintained that Uganda are temporarily champions while Tanzania are second," Uganda finished top after posting a comfortable 29-run win over Tanzania.
