Richard Pybus to coach Knight Riders

New Delhi: Richard Pybus is all set to become the new coach of the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Englishman had coached Pakistan during the 1999 World Cup and had also won the South Africa domestic Twenty20 title with the Titans in 2008, before he quit the post three months ago.

KKR management who had shortlisted a host of coaches including former national coach John Wright, is expected to formally announce the appointment on Friday, according to a team source.

While the 45-year-old Pybus will coach the Knight Riders, another team who ended second last in the previous edition of the cash-rich league in South Africa, the Mumbai Indians have settled in on former Indian all-rounder Robin Singh for the coaching job.

However, Mumbai Indians has preferred to retain the old order as Singh, the former coach of Deccan Chargers, will be the additional staff. Also, former Mumbai all-rounder Paras Mhambrey has been drafted in as Singh's deputy.

With South Africa's Shaun Pollock agreeing to continue with the mentor's role and Jonty Rhodes as the fielding coach, the Mukesh Ambani-owned outfit has almost finalised the coaching staff.
