According to BCCI chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth, India has a good chance to clinch Champions Trophy.
However, Srikkanth added that Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men must keep up the tempo they gained by winning the tri-nation series in Sri Lanka.
"Winning is all about confidence"
"They have to keep up the momentum (of the tri-series). If they perform to their potential and rise to the demands of the situation, we will certainly win the Champions Trophy," Srikkanth told PTI on the sideline of a convention.
The eight-nation Champions Trophy is commencing in the rainbow nation from September 22.
Speaking on 'Creating Winning Organisation of Tomorrow' at the convention, the 49-year-old former cricketer cited the example of master batsman Sachin Tendulkar and former captain Rahul Dravid to explain what makes a champion player.
"In cricket, any player will know his position is in danger (if he fails to perform well). But one must have a strong mind, especially during difficult times to be in the team.
"Players like Sachin and Rahul have gone through those difficult times and that is why they are great," Srikkanth said.
Srikkanth said it was important for the captain to infuse confidence in his players to mould the team into a winning combination.
"As a captain, one should be a person who does not have ego. The team should be infused with confidence particularly during the failures," he said, adding "only the team effort could help you win a match."
Srikkanth still feels that they, under the leadership of Kapil Dev, could win the 1983 World Cup only because everyone had contributed to the team's performance.
"Winning is all about confidence and success," Srikkanth said.
